William Morris

     William Morris is known as "the leader of the arts and crafts movement". Morris was not happy with the state of Victorian design he had experienced and knew it was time for a change. He then began designing furniture, stained glass, and tapestries. Morris was also incredible pattern designer with many of his patterns still used today. William Morris calling for individual expression by both the designer and the worker is what makes him the leader and innovator of the arts and crafts movement.
